Navigating Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – Access, pathways and interventions
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) have been in increasing demand across the nation, which means that an increasing number of young people are on waiting lists for CAMHS. But CAMHS is not a singular service as there are many different mental health difficulties, requiring many different streams to the service. The Service has adopted a THRIVE model approach which means the different CAMH services deliver: Advice and Support, Early Help, More Help and Mental Health Crisis work within different, diagnosis defined, pathways of work. This can be difficult for people to navigate. In this talk you will learn about the CAMHS service across Hampshire and the pathways that are available to children, young people and their families.
Dr Jennie Eeles is Lead clinician for the Urgent assessment and Home Treatment team in Hampshire CAMHS. Dr. Jennie Eeles has been working in CAMHS since 2001 as a mental health nurse, specialising in working with young people who present with primary emotional dysregulation, who are suicidal and engage in self-harm. Jennie’s work with this cohort of young people includes – DBT, Trauma focused DBT, EMDR and ACT. In 2021 Jennie completed a doctoral research project which focussed on the Adolescent and Practitioner experience of mindfulness as taught in DBT.
