Through a trauma-informed lens, we will explore the complex realities of child sexual exploitation (CSE) and grooming. We will talk through key definitions, the lived experience of exploited young people, and the diverse forms that exploitation and grooming can take. Drawing on real-life case studies, we will explore coercive control, trauma bonding, neurological responses to these forms of abuse, and the grooming process in its various forms, and how presentations may differ across clients.
Lisette Perry:
I am a qualified child and adolescent therapeutic social worker and have dedicated my entire professional career to safeguarding vulnerable young people. A significant part of my work was spent with a leading children’s charity, where I managed three specialist therapeutic CSE and missing services across Southampton, Portsmouth, and Hampshire. In collaboration with Hampshire Police, I established the MET (Missing, Exploited, and Trafficked) multi-agency safeguarding group, shaping best practices and strengthening coordinated responses. I have had the opportunity to contribute to national conversations around early intervention and CSE, partnering with the University of Bedfordshire to develop and evaluate innovative support models. I was also commissioned by Hampshire Police to design trauma-informed interventions for young people displaying concerning sexual behaviour.
I am dedicated to working in partnership with young people, making sure their voices are heard and placed at the heart of the services and interventions that support them. I also provide ongoing consultation, supervision, and training for charities and professionals in the field of child sexual exploitation (CSE), alongside running my private therapy practice based in Winchester.
