About Me (Michele)
I am an experienced therapist, specialising in psychosexual and relationship therapy and the treatment of compulsive sexual behaviours (CSB), using an integrative approach. I work with families, non-intimate partners and partners of those concerned with compulsive sexual behaviours. I am also a supervisor, using the 7-eye model with students and experienced therapists in the fields of relational, psychosexual, family therapy and those working with CSB. I am a member of COSRT and AFT and I am on the SexPositivityUK register.
Having worked with a diverse client base all over the UK, witnessing the impact of social constructs on clients, I have a keen interest in diversity, culture and GSRD studies.
Beyond Pathology: Contemporary Therapeutic Approaches to Client Pornography Use
Many therapists feel uncomfortable or anxious about addressing porn use with clients. My aim is to explore the evolution, from pathology focused to a reflexive therapeutic approach when thinking of our clients’ porn use.
I intend to demonstrate the benefits of sex positive frameworks within the confines of ethical practice as well as take into account sexual health principles, respect of client autonomy and self determination.
This talk offers evidence-based alternatives that improve therapeutic outcomes while maintaining professional boundaries. The focus will be on skills, not explicit content. We will explore prioritising clients’ well being, enhancing the therapeutic alliance and professional confidence in challenging conversation, and managing self care.
