Helena Cook, MA(Cantab), will explore: ‘The need for Clinical or Therapeutic Wills.’
Helena is an experienced, qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor in private practice, who also brings elements of a person-centred, CBT and an integrative approach to her work. She has worked as a therapist in a Counselling Service in a major London hospital and is a qualified lawyer, mediator and Citizens Advice Bureau Advisor. Helena is a Registered Member of the BACP and UKCP and works according to their professional regulations and Codes of Ethics. Helena’s wide ranging experience, both legal and therapeutic, informs her overview of this subject in respect of its legal and ethical aspects and processes.
The day will include discussions around the following important questions:
- What is a Clinical Will, and why do we need one?
- Therapists have important relationships with clients, trainees and/or supervisees and what then should happen in the case of their unexpected illness or death.
- The legal and ethical background to the need for clinical and therapeutic wills.
- The ethical requirements in respect of your professional body or bodies.
- What does a Clinical Will need to include.
- Who might you choose to be the Clinical Will’s Executor(s), their duties and the financial steps needed to ensure any costs incurred by the Executor(s) are covered.
